We recently moved the location of our regular services. We are meeting on Sundays at 10:00 & 11:00 and Wednesdays at 7:00 PM. Our new location is CATEC at 1000 East Rio Road. Join us in worship to our Awesome God! Everyone is welcome!
We’ve started a Bible Reading Group that meets at Jason’s Deli just across from Fashion Square Mall and beside Staples. We’re meeting every Saturday morning at 10:30. Come join us in this time of Scripture reading and fellowship.
Conquered By The Wounded The prophet, Jeremiah, was given the arduous task of warning sinful Judah of her impending destruction if she failed to repent. His work was made even more difficult by the fact that God’s words were countered by prophets who assured the people with lies saying, “You shall have peace…No evil shall come upon you.” During the reign of Zedekiah, Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon laid siege to the city of Jerusalem. The inhabitants of the Jerusalem gained a false sense of hope when the Pharaoh of Egypt sent his army to assist and the Chaldeans temporarily withdrew. Jehovah sent Jeremiah to the king of Judah warning him and the people not to be deceived by the immediate circumstance. "Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, 'Thus you shall say to the king of Judah, who sent you to Me to inquire of Me: "Behold, Pharaoh's army which has come up to help you will return to Egypt, to their own land. And the Chaldeans shall come back and fight against this city, and take it and burn it with fire.” Thus says the LORD: 'Do not deceive yourselves, saying, "The Chaldeans will surely depart from us," for they will not depart.’” (Jeremiah 37:7-9) God followed this assertion with an astounding statement, “For though you had defeated the whole army of the Chaldeans who fight against you, and there remained only wounded men among them, they would rise up, every man in his tent, and burn the city with fire." (Jeremiah 37:10) What God is forcefully asserting here is the absolute certainty of His word and will. If, perhaps, Judah had the strength and manpower to defeat the entire Babylonian army and only wounded enemy soldiers were left, the Lord said that the city of Jerusalem would still fall to them and be burnt with fire. Why would that be so? It would occur because God said it would! His word will come to pass and His will cannot be thwarted by man. Jeremiah was cast into prison as a response to his unpopular preaching. Although the prophet was bound, he continued his work. He dictated a message to Jehoiakim, king of Judah and sent it by the hand of Baruch. The king had one of his council members to read Jeremiah’s letter to him. As Jehudi was reading the words of the prophet, Jehoiakim took a knife and cut the scroll into pieces and cast it into the fire, as if somehow this would annul the words of God. The Scriptures repeatedly assert the principle that God’s will cannot be overthrown, “The LORD of hosts has sworn, saying, ‘Surely, as I have thought, so it shall come to pass, And as I have purposed, so it shall stand’” (Isaiah 14:24) Notice these words recorded by Ezekiel, "For I am the LORD. I speak, and the word which I speak will come to pass…” (Ezekiel 12:25 NKJV) The lesson for us to learn today is the inalterability of God’s word. Men may attempt to skew the commands of God by means of modern translations of the Bible, but that will not change the fact that God’s truth will stand and be our judge in the Last Day (John 12:48, Revelation 20:11-15). Councils may convene and vote to modernize and change His word to fit what suits the demands of today’s society, but this cannot alter the principles that God has set forth in His word. God assures us, "All flesh is as grass, And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, And its flower falls away, But the word of the LORD endures forever.” (1 Peter 1:24-25) This same word, the gospel of Jesus Christ, is “the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes” (Romans 1:16). One may ignore His word during their entire life, but this will not make its truthfulness and authority over us diminish in the least. There will be no escaping from the Day of Judgment or God measuring our lives by the standard of His word. Thus it behooves each of us to make learning and obeying God’s will for us the number one priority in our lives.
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28 Despite the devils best efforts, God will take all the hurt, pain and suffering in the lives of His children and bring good from those things. Look for the silver lining in the clouds.
Today is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
